Joshua Tree was an easy 45ish minute drive from Palm Springs International Airport. Las Vegas is a little further away with the 200 mile drive taking a little over 3 hours. Many people were hiking and climbing the rocks here, but we kept moving. One thing I regret is that we didn’t make it to Joshua Tree before we started our world travels. We will depart from UCSB and arrive in the evening to set up our base in Black Rock Campground. It may have been in areas we didn’t visit or have not been as noticeable if you weren’t looking for it. And the park is incredibly accessible; nearly all of the campsites in the park's 11 designated camping areas are first-come, first-served, and backcountry permits are free and self issued unless you plan on rock climbing with bolts.
